Meekness

Meekness is an attribute you don’t hear too often being talked about. It’s a very important fruit of the spirit and that’s confirmed by scripture.

The meaning of meekness is:
Of gentle and long-suffering disposition
Submissive; compliant
Humble; lowly

How can I not talk about meekness without talking about Moses. He was considered the meekest man to have ever lived.

Numbers 12

1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.

2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.

5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
“For the Lord to come down & talk to Miriam & Aaron face to face to defend Moses definitely lets us know just how much favor Moses had with the Lord. I don’t think it gets any better than that.”

6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

“The Lord also let them know I do talk with You I just do it by visions & dreams”.

7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.

8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
“The Lord let them know that Moses was different because of his faithfulness. The Lord would speak to him face to face where he would clearly understand what He was saying. That had to be an amazing relationship Moses had with the Lord.”

9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned. 12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb. Aaron reached out to Moses begging him to go to the Lord & not to let Miriam pay for the sin they committed even though they deserved it.

How many times do we deserve the punishments God gives us for our actions?? And how many times do we not deserve His Mercy?

13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
The Lord told Moses Miriam had to suffer the consequences of her actions.. See Miriam must have been the ring leader in this whole mess because she was the only one to get this type of punished for what her & Aaron did.. She never would make that mistake again!

15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

16 And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.
It’s clear that Moses had a relationship with the Lord that was like no other.. He was rewarded for his faithfulness. He clearly obtained great favor because of his meekness. To be the meekest man to have ever lived is a great honor. A honor Moses didn’t take lightly & was very humble about it. He didn’t boast in His authority & acknowledge God Always!

Now I see why meekness is an important fruit of the spirit to have. Because it requires us to Die to ourselves and ultimately realize it’s not about us it’s about Jesus..

It’s about living for Him & about His goodness & mercy He extends to us in our lives time & time again!!

Meekness is a hard one to swallow for some because it requires us to let God get All the Glory & Honor not us. Sometimes we take a title or a position in the church & let it get to our heads & we sometimes tend to think we are better than others & lose sight of the real reason God put us in that position in the first place..

Being boastful & having a lack of meekness & humility can get us in the position where God can’t use us how He intended, because we lost sight of Him & sometimes He may even replace us. So as leaders let’s not get too full of ourselves that we push God to the back burner. Let’s die to ourselves & humble ourselves to Him Always & faithfully!!

Meekness also means submissive.. Now how many of us wives find that to be a hard thing to do when it comes to applying that attribute in our marriage? I know I do!!

Ephesians 5 21-23
21Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

The Bible makes it clear that being submissive to your husband is a very important thing.. The Bible even compares the relationship in a Marriage to the relationship Christ has with the church..

But Lord:
I’m use to being independent and not having to answer to anyone…
Do I have to ask him before I do it?
Do I have to care about his opinion even though I don’t agree??
Do I have to run it by him before I decided to make a large purchase that will affect the finances in our home??
Do I have to let him know where I’m at always??
Do I have to obey, when he says NO?
Ok now that’s a hard one for me because “No” was not in my vocabulary when I was single & wanted something!!

The answer to them all is YES, YES & YES.. If it’s stated in the Bible that means it’s a very serious thing that the Lord doesn’t take it lightly & expects us to adhere to ALWAYS!!

Once we become believers in Christ we are expected to live our lives according to scripture.

Being submissive is not only for the wives it’s for all of us. Especially when it comes to submitting to authority!! This one is a hard one as well.

Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just giving you what the Lord gave me!!

Hebrews 13:17
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
A lot of times we may not understand why God gave our leader a certain rule or request but a lot of times it’s not for us to figure out. It just means we have to obey, & submit ourselves to what’s being asked & just do it.

So let’s be careful How we talk about our Bishop.. talk about Mother Hunt, talk about our Pastor, and talk about the Mother’s and Missionaries of the church because they are ruler over our souls & God has chosen to use them in their leadership position for a reason. God has trusted them. Instead of going against everything they say and having the attitude “that it doesn’t take all of that to be saved” Just Be obedient!!

Everything that’s asked of us in our church isn’t always going to be listed in scripture as a specific thing, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important. Sometimes the request is because of their Wisdom & experiences they have been through in their lives. Wisdom & experience we may never have.

Follow what’s required of you in scripture & you’ll never go wrong.

Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
You can’t have these fruits if you have an attitude or refuse to be obedient.

You know I found out that if I just humble myself & die to myself & obey my leadership God honors that an blesses me accordingly.

But if I was to have an attitude of disobedience & say “That doesn’t convict me or show me where it says that in the Bible” then I will never grow in God because I’m not willing to die to myself & submit to my leadership & to the word of God..

We can’t pick & choose rules & guidelines for our lives in the Bible & do some things and not all.

“Humm let me see this commandment looks good today let me do that..
Oh I don’t very well like this commandment let me skip that one today!!”

It doesn’t work like that. We must adhere to the word of God completely & always live our lives according to scripture.

As you can see MEEKNESS is a very important Fruit of the spirit to have.. So let’s look into our lives and see just how much meekness we display on a daily basis & if we need to step up our game & show more attributes of the Fruits of the Spirit. Then let’s do so.

We’re not perfect & there are areas in our walk with the Lord that needs sprucing up.. Let’s be humble enough to pray & ask God, “If there’s anything, I need to work on that may be hindering a closer relationship with You Lord Please reveal it to me.

Once He reveals it to you, really Listen & apply it to your lives whole heartily & without an attitude & watch how the Lord will use you in ways you never thought possible!!

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5

Thank you
Pray much for me!!
