Meekness

Meekness is an attribute you don’t hear too often being talked about. It’s a very important fruit of the spirit and that’s confirmed by scripture.

The meaning of meekness is:
Of gentle and long-suffering disposition
Submissive; compliant
Humble; lowly

How can I not talk about meekness without talking about Moses. He was considered the meekest man to have ever lived.

Numbers 12

1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.


2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.

5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
“For the Lord to come down & talk to Miriam & Aaron face to face to defend Moses definitely lets us know just how much favor Moses had with the Lord. I don’t think it gets any better than that.”

6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

“The Lord also let them know I do talk with You I just do it by visions & dreams”.

7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.

8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
“The Lord let them know that Moses was different because of his faithfulness. The Lord would speak to him face to face where he would clearly understand what He was saying. That had to be an amazing relationship Moses had with the Lord.”

9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned. 12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb. Aaron reached out to Moses begging him to go to the Lord & not to let Miriam pay for the sin they committed even though they deserved it.

How many times do we deserve the punishments God gives us for our actions?? And how many times do we not deserve His Mercy?

13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
The Lord told Moses Miriam had to suffer the consequences of her actions.. See Miriam must have been the ring leader in this whole mess because she was the only one to get this type of punished for what her & Aaron did.. She never would make that mistake again!

15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

16 And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.
It’s clear that Moses had a relationship with the Lord that was like no other.. He was rewarded for his faithfulness. He clearly obtained great favor because of his meekness. To be the meekest man to have ever lived is a great honor. A honor Moses didn’t take lightly & was very humble about it. He didn’t boast in His authority & acknowledge God Always!

Now I see why meekness is an important fruit of the spirit to have. Because it requires us to Die to ourselves and ultimately realize it’s not about us it’s about Jesus..

It’s about living for Him & about His goodness & mercy He extends to us in our lives time & time again!!

Meekness is a hard one to swallow for some because it requires us to let God get All the Glory & Honor not us. Sometimes we take a title or a position in the church & let it get to our heads & we sometimes tend to think we are better than others & lose sight of the real reason God put us in that position in the first place..

Being boastful & having a lack of meekness & humility can get us in the position where God can’t use us how He intended, because we lost sight of Him & sometimes He may even replace us. So as leaders let’s not get too full of ourselves that we push God to the back burner. Let’s die to ourselves & humble ourselves to Him Always & faithfully!!


Meekness also means submissive.. Now how many of us wives find that to be a hard thing to do when it comes to applying that attribute in our marriage? I know I do!!

Ephesians 5 21-23
21Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

The Bible makes it clear that being submissive to your husband is a very important thing.. The Bible even compares the relationship in a Marriage to the relationship Christ has with the church..

But Lord:
I’m use to being independent and not having to answer to anyone…
Do I have to ask him before I do it?
Do I have to care about his opinion even though I don’t agree??
Do I have to run it by him before I decided to make a large purchase that will affect the finances in our home??
Do I have to let him know where I’m at always??
Do I have to obey, when he says NO?
Ok now that’s a hard one for me because “No” was not in my vocabulary when I was single & wanted something!!

The answer to them all is YES, YES & YES.. If it’s stated in the Bible that means it’s a very serious thing that the Lord doesn’t take it lightly & expects us to adhere to ALWAYS!!

Once we become believers in Christ we are expected to live our lives according to scripture.


Being submissive is not only for the wives it’s for all of us. Especially when it comes to submitting to authority!! This one is a hard one as well.

Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just giving you what the Lord gave me!!

Hebrews 13:17
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
A lot of times we may not understand why God gave our leader a certain rule or request but a lot of times it’s not for us to figure out. It just means we have to obey, & submit ourselves to what’s being asked & just do it.

So let’s be careful How we talk about our Bishop.. talk about Mother Hunt, talk about our Pastor, and talk about the Mother’s and Missionaries of the church because they are ruler over our souls & God has chosen to use them in their leadership position for a reason. God has trusted them. Instead of going against everything they say and having the attitude “that it doesn’t take all of that to be saved” Just Be obedient!!

Everything that’s asked of us in our church isn’t always going to be listed in scripture as a specific thing, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important. Sometimes the request is because of their Wisdom & experiences they have been through in their lives. Wisdom & experience we may never have.

Follow what’s required of you in scripture & you’ll never go wrong.

Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
You can’t have these fruits if you have an attitude or refuse to be obedient.

You know I found out that if I just humble myself & die to myself & obey my leadership God honors that an blesses me accordingly.

But if I was to have an attitude of disobedience & say “That doesn’t convict me or show me where it says that in the Bible” then I will never grow in God because I’m not willing to die to myself & submit to my leadership & to the word of God..

We can’t pick & choose rules & guidelines for our lives in the Bible & do some things and not all.

“Humm let me see this commandment looks good today let me do that..
Oh I don’t very well like this commandment let me skip that one today!!”

It doesn’t work like that. We must adhere to the word of God completely & always live our lives according to scripture.


As you can see MEEKNESS is a very important Fruit of the spirit to have.. So let’s look into our lives and see just how much meekness we display on a daily basis & if we need to step up our game & show more attributes of the Fruits of the Spirit. Then let’s do so.

We’re not perfect & there are areas in our walk with the Lord that needs sprucing up.. Let’s be humble enough to pray & ask God, “If there’s anything, I need to work on that may be hindering a closer relationship with You Lord Please reveal it to me.

Once He reveals it to you, really Listen & apply it to your lives whole heartily & without an attitude & watch how the Lord will use you in ways you never thought possible!!

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5

Spiritual Warfare

We have all had to deal with spiritual warfare. The enemy trying to get into our minds, our souls, our hearts, our lives, & even our loved ones…

Ephesians 6:12 says
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.


Spiritual warfare is an attack of ones FAITH, SALVATION, SPIRIT, STRENGTH, PEACE, JOY, MIND, BODY & most important SOUL….

For as Luke 22:31b says:
Behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.


Spiritual warfare… The devil tries to get into your mind before you even get to church… Weighing you down with tiredness, stress and all kind of nonsense..

Spiritual warfare… Your job has a potluck at 12pm on the day your fasting until 5pm.. With all your favorite foods..

Spiritual warfare … You find time to go to the mall, then to the grocery store, then to Jonnies baseball game …but at the end of the night you’re too tired to pray & read your word…

Spiritual warfare … Sickness in your body and devil brings thoughts in your head for you to loose your faith…

Spiritual Warfare … Everything in your life seems to be going all wrong too much month and not enough money and he puts it in your mind to pay everything but your tithes

The devil has tried to bring Sion Down… time and time again but has failed…

He Didn’t want to see this church Built…
But here it stands…

He Didn’t want us to have a faithful Leader
but Here He is…

He Didn’t want us to be in church
But “Here we are…

He Didn’t want us to give our lives to Christ ..
But here “I am… as a living witness”

The devil not only attacks our minds it can be our health, our strength, our marriage an upset from the past to bring up old feelings … anything to get you sidetracked on what’s really important. Anything to get you out of the will of God…Anything for you to loose the battle…

When is the devil going to realize “He is NOT welcome HERE” He does not have a place in my mind, my body, in my soul in My life….I belong to God He is my Salvation.. I am on the battlefield fighting for my Lord… He has seen me through every aspect of my life even though I didn’t always acknowledge Him..

The devil is not welcomed in Our Church!!!

The devil is on attack of the saints and if we’re not prepared he will knock us out one by one…

The devil wants to destroy us as saints.. He wants our minds and he will do anything to get it. He will bring up old habits, old friends, old thoughts all the things you use to do to try to bring you back into the world.


We as saints must put on the whole armour of God.. When it comes to getting in the battle field with the devil…. We’ are going to need it…

Ephesians 6:13 says
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.


We must prepare ourselves for this Battle!!! We need to make sure we have our armour:

We Must


A. Fast …
We must decrease so that God can increase. We must turn our plates over. We must conquer our flesh!!! Romans 8:8 says …So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. We must be willing to sacrifice something to get something… We all know that nothing from nothing gets….NOTHING… We won’t be hungry when we fast… The Lord feeds our soul with his spirit…

Joel 2:12 says
Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:


We must

B. Pray ….
We must do this daily in order to withstand the test of time… Get on your knees & pray.. I have found it to be more effective to get on my knees & give God my all in prayer.. We must do this daily to increase our relationship with the Father…Prayer is so important and can’t be left out…Sometimes we do so much in our day we don’t give God the time He deserves…We must stay Prayed Up…


2 Chronicles 7:14 says
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.


Ephesians 6:18 says:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching there unto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

C. Read the:
B.I.B.L.E. Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth For the word of God is truth…
We must read this…We will not make it without it: How can we tell someone about the word of God if we don’t read the word of God….

Hebrews 4:12 says:
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

D. have Faith…
We must have Faith: Without faith nothing seems possible. We must stand in our faith. We must believe that the Lord will see us through.. No matter what the situation. Fight the good fight of faith!!!

Hebrews 11:1 says
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarded of them that diligently seek him.


We must

E. have the Holy Ghost
We must have His power to bring everything together.. We can’t make it without power… Power Seals it all!!! Power is the difference between Our flesh &
Us becoming more & more like Christ. When you have power your old way of thinking becomes God’s way of thinking… How we received the Holy Ghost is how we have to Keep the Holy Ghost!!!

Romans 8:9 says
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.


We need to Put on the:

"Helmet of Salvation"

The "Breastplate of Righteousness" …

Carry the shield of faith &

the sword of the Spirit

We are on the Battlefield fighting for the Lord.

All of this armour is connected in some way… You can’t have one without the other…They all work together to conquer Spiritual warfare…

Yes we can get the armour for this battle… But we must keep the armour to win this battle!!!!

Modest Is Thee Hottest

C.O.G.I.C. Dress Code

The dress code for Holy women in the C.O.G.I.C. Woman’s Department Handbook is as follows:

“It is hoped that this dress code will encourage the laywomen to return to the old fashioned standard of dressing as becometh holiness. Often there are those among us who feel uncomfortable because they are not blessed to have as others. We feel that this code amplifies the expression of the writer, St Luke who said in the Book of Acts “and they had all things common” It is hoped that all of our women will refrain from wearing of unnecessary, gaudy attire but will join with our Leading women in reminding the world that there is a “difference”

We close by admonishing our young women and girls to let your manner and your clothing reflect the Jesus that you sing & testify about. The world is looking for an example, a model, why not be that one. Most of all, make certain that your hearts are right with the Lord, for it is the “hidden man of the heart” 1 Peter 3:3

Holy women are asked to refrain from make-up, such as eyeshadow, lipstick, colored fingernail polish, etc.

Holy women should be careful of accepting latest fashions because some of them do not represent modesty in dress.

Pants are not included in the dress code for Holy women.

Traditional

Let’s start with the traditional point of view on dress code.. I believe that our leaders back in 1972 had a good reason to set a dress code for our women like they did. First off they had to be very wise & know what’s best for Holy women of God. 2nd to set ourselves apart from the world & their forever changing trends in dress. We must remember as holy women we are peculiar.. It’s not meant for us to blend in with the world. When you become saved not only do you change on the inside but your outside appearance should change as well to reflect what Christ has done in your heart..

Let’s deal with the facts.. The C.O.G.I.C. has rules of dress for women. We have been taught this way of dress down through the years. In my 30 plus years of being raised in the C.O.G.I.C. church pants were not a part of that dress code. Dressing immodest was not a part of that dress code. Wearing loud finger nail polish & make up was not part of that dress code. I was taught to dress modest & have my skirts at least knee length & my shirts cut high. To have my finger nail polish a suttle color to blend in. I was taught not wear so much makeup that it look like my face was painted.. I was taught to have respect for myself & present myself different from what the worlds standard of dress are.

1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;


The bible speaks on apparel:

Deuteronomy 22:5 says
5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.


A lot of times people like to put their own spin on that scripture.. I am going off facts.. Back in the biblical times men had robes they would wear that were far different from the robes women wore… Also men would wear garments called: Breeches. Breeches" were an article of clothing designed by God for the priests who were all men. The word does not occur very often in scripture, but in every case it’s men’s apparel.

Here are a few scripture references:

Exodus 28:42-43
42 And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:
43 And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.


Leviticus 6:10
And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar.


Leviticus 16
He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.


I looked up the word breeches the definition is:
An item of clothing covering the body from the waist down, with separate coverings for each leg usually stopping just below the knee, though in some cases reaching to the ankles.

Now let’s look at the definition of pants:
An item of clothing worn on the lower part of the body from the waist to the ankles, covering both legs separately (rather than with cloth stretching across both as in skirts and dresses)

That sounds like the same type of garment to me!

So when Bishop G.E. Patterson spoke to the people concerning this scripture & he said nowhere did it mention pants & the content of this scripture didn’t pertain to modern times.. I beg to differ.. The name of the garment may have changed but the descriptions did not. The bible whether Old or New Testament is speaking to us now & a lot of things relate to what we’re going through in today’s time.

It’s amazing that for years & years women would wear long dresses but only since the last 40 years a dress has become suddenly impractical to wear.

If you saw a man wearing a dress, what would you call him? Uh-huh, you would have no trouble knowing that it was wrong, and an abomination to God. But we have been conditioned by the world & to look like them.

One example we see everyday is the universal symbol for men’s bathrooms. The symbol on the door is a stick figure wearing a pair of pants. The universal symbol for woman’s bathrooms. The symbol on the door is a stick figure wearing a dress. Coincidence? Hardly. Even our sinful society recognizes that there is a difference in a man’s and woman’s clothing.




New Age Dress Code

Dress in the world has changed drastically since the 1900 when the C.O.G.I.C. was founded in 1907. Nowadays dress is being used to express one’s self. Dress is so powerful in the world.. To look a certain way. Our young people are pressured every day to have the latest fashions and look like their peers or they’ll get talked about & laughed at. The world’s way of dress sets trends, & a lot of these trends aren’t modest. A lot of the new generation of saved young saints have adapted to certain trends and don’t want to separate themselves from the worlds way of dressing. Some of them have totally disregarded the C.O.G.I.C. church standard of dress & modesty. The worlds way of dressing has become acceptable to the world & it’s also become acceptable to our new generation of Christians.

The new school way of thinking in the church is:

1. It doesn’t take all that.. If I have Christ on the inside it shouldn’t matter what I look like on the outside.
2. Why are you so concerned about how I look.. Isn’t my soul more important.. God loves me no matter what I wear.
3. I haven’t been convicted to not wear pants so therefore I don’t have to obey your rule in the C.O.G.I.C. church. Until I hear from God himself, I’m not changing.
4. The bible doesn’t say pants are a sin so therefore I’ll wear what I want. They make them for women now times have changed.
5. That dress code was done way back in the day.. Times have changed now so get with the program. I’m not trying to look like no holy roller. I’m not tryna look like my Granny.
6. I’m afraid my friends & peers will make fun of me if I stand out.
7. Other Pentecostal churches don’t trip on pants why do I have to obey your rule.. Even some C.O.G.I.C. churches don’t adhere to the rule..
8. Why are you judging the way I dress?
9. This dress code isn’t fair I will find another church to go to that doesn’t care what I wear!!!!
10. I know I’m saved & I love the Lord and he knows my heart & He ain’t trippin on what I wear.. So what if I’m being disobedient to my leader he’s stuck on the old school & he doesn’t understand times have changed..
11. I feel if I look like the people I minister to outside the church they’ll feel more comfortable around me & listen to what I have to say.
12. This is why people don’t want to join the C.O.G.I.C. church because ya’ll are too strict.

Conclusion

So which way is the right way?

For me the right way is tradition..

Let me make it very clear I always didn’t feel this way. I was with the New age. I felt like the way I dressed had nothing to do with the fact that I was saved. I always respected the COGIC & would never step foot in a COGIC church or event in pants. I had too much respect for the rules of the church even when I wasn’t saved.

When I first got saved I knew the rules of the COGIC church & what my Pastor expected of my attire outside of the church but I felt that didn’t apply to me as long as I didn’t come to church in pants or short skirts, or makeup & so on. Boy was I wrong. At first I would come to church and dress like the saints and when I would go to work I would look a different way.. I would wear my pants and I still had my tongue ring in my mouth & listened to some secular music as long as it didn’t have cursing in it I felt it was ok.. But it wasn’t.. I was still holding on to a piece of the world & didn’t want to let go. God wasn’t pleased.

When I was seeking for the Holy Ghost I was wondering why I couldn’t get it… I felt like my heart was right & I was doing all the right things to a certain extent.. During a revival at our church the evangelist said in order to receive the Holy Ghost you have to let go of the “STUFF” Stuff meaning all your ties to the world.. For me that meant the music & the tongue ring & yes my way of dressing as I did in the world.

Once I had it in my mind to change & did change is when I received the Holy Ghost.. For me the dress was so hard because all I would wear in the world was pants.. Once I decided to be obedient to my leadership the Holy Ghost was able to dwell in my temple.

The day I got rid of my pants I had a huge garbage bag full of pants I donated. That day was hard for me but it also felt so good, because I was taking a stand & most importantly being obedient to what was expected of me in my church. As I talk to young people all the time about COGIC dress; I simply put it this way it’s not about the pants one bit. It’s about presenting yourself to the world differently than when you did when you were in the world.

2 Corinthians 5:17
17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.


This scripture is right on it we must let go of all things of this world not just the things we want to let go of! Obedience is better than sacrifice.

I felt that I couldn’t workout or go swimming without looking like an old lady. Holy dress is so outdated so I thought until I found that I could find stylish cute modest clothing that was in line with the COGIC dress & modest apparel without looking like a Granny. I was able to find a lot of clothing at Stores like Ross, Layne Bryant, Avenue & online… Although modest is sometimes hard to find in these stores they do have them, you just have to take the time and look.

I refuse to conform to this world.. Once I changed my way of thinking the Lord lead me to other Christian young people that felt the same way about Holy dress & He helped me to realize I wasn’t alone.

One website I came across was created by a young Christian girl because she was tired of layering herself in heavy ugly looking coverings just to go swimming so she started making her own swimming suits that covered herself, then people started asking her where they could get them and the Lord made a way for her to start her own business selling modest swimming suits:

Also I had issues with working out & felt I would have to wear pants to do so.. I was wrong again.. The Lord led me to another website of another young lady that created a workout skirt called an Exerskirt (www.miraclothes.com)

See we don’t have to conform to this world’s way of dress we can do anything in a dress that we do in pants.. I thank God for these women that feel the same way I do & have created fashionable clothes I can wear to make a stand to the world & stay Holy…
